The Mara can be quite unpredictable when it comes to weather (in fact, unpredictable in about almost everything). While we had mostly dry weather during our visit, stormy clouds did pass over us on a couple of afternoons, and on one such lucky occasion we were watching a group of giraffes gently strolling along against a backdrop of some stunning stormy clouds.
As a photographer, you know you’ve hit the sweet spot when the sun is behind you and your object (giraffe) is lit up against a dark background. The only thing you need to do in ‘post’ is recover a little for the highlights (camera sensors are unfortunately not up to the standards of our human retina…) and there you have it: a magical moment captured in time.

I will soon post another magical shot, in what will be the final article of my series on the Masai Mara. For the overall set, just have a look here; also if you’d like to know more about an opportunity to experience a safari adventure like the one I’ve shared.
